Valentine’s Day 2021 coincides with the Chinese Lunar New Year in Hong Kong.


For those who are not interested in Bai Nian or prefer to stay inside, why not cozy up with your loved one(s) with a movie? Fortunately, there’s a great selection of Hong Kong romantic movies to choose from online. 1. For the young lovers: You are The One (我的筍盤男友)

Plot: A rich finance guy falls in love with a grassroots girl. Rich guy meets poor girl story where the leads are both good-looking and some good love chemistry between them both. Ranked as one of the top films in 2020 in Hong Kong by SCMP.

2. For the happily single: 29+1

Plot: Two women turn 30 on the same birthday, one a hard-hitting working woman in a boring but stable relationship, the other a happy-go-lucky chubby single woman. This is a feel-good movie for single Hong Kong woman who are going through age issues.

3. For the LGBTQ: Suk Suk (叔叔)

Plot: Two elderly men find love in Hong Kong and must overcome the prejudices in family and society against LGBTQ. One is a single father with a grown-up son, the other is a taxi driver. A quiet love story with a social mission to spark debate on gay rights, including whether Hong Kong should set up elderly homes catered for elderly gay men in Hong Kong.

4. For the Classical Love buff: Love is a Many Splendored Thing

Plot: A love story of a sexy Eurasian doctor from the upper echelons of Hong Kong society and an American reporter (starring William Holden). The film is adapted from an autobiography by Han Suyin. This classic movie brings you back to a time when love between a gentleman and a lady was elegant and beautiful. Part of the movie was filmed in Jumbo Kingdom, the now-defunct floating restaurant in Aberdeen, soon to be revamped by the Hong Kong government.

5. For the feeling sexy: Lust, Caution (色,戒)



Plot:

Nationalist Chinese students from The University of Hong Kong plot to kill a Chinese traitor working for the puppet government under the Japanese occupation. An exciting spy movie featuring famed actress Tang Wei based on history and erotica.
